Sigiriya Rock Fortress - A wonder of the world
Sigiriya is not only the most valuable historical monuments of Sri Lanka, But also it's the eighth wonder of the world. It is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres (660 ft) high.
Its view astonishes the visitors with the unique harmony between the nature and human imagination.
The fortress complex includes remnants of a ruined palace, surrounded by an extensive network of fortifications, vast gardens, ponds, canals, alleys and fountains.
Since 3th century BC the rocky plateau of Sigiriya served as a monastery. In the second half of the 5th century king Kasyapa decided to construct a royal residence here.
After his death Sigiriya again became a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century, when it was abandoned.
The thing is you have to have a ability and strong enough to climb this mountain and long path to walk as well. we don't recommend if you are elder / unhealthy or disable
